- Interpretation：The man who becomes a great man is excellent from a child's time. A wise child accomplishes a great feat. It early pricks that will be a thorn. A wise child accomplishes a great feat.
- 類義：蛇（じゃ）は寸にして人を呑む。良竹は生い出るより直（す）ぐなり。
- 反義：大器晩成。十で神童、十五で才子、二十（はたち）過ぎればただの人。
