◇少年が自分の力と勇気を試そうとビジョン・クエストに出かけた。
The boy tries to try the power and courage, and he has gone out to Vision Quest. 人を驚かせるような凄いビジョンを得て、メディスン・マンになるのだと自信満々だった。 He got the wonderful vision which makes people be surprised, and was full of confidence as becoming the Medicine man. 初めの夜。 Night first. ひとりぼっちの山で怖くなって少年は泣いた。 The boy became afraid and cried at a lone mountain. でも、精霊がやってきたら捕まえて、ビジョンを得る決意は変わらなかった。 But if a sprite came, he caught, and the decision from which he gets the vision didn't change. ビジョンは現れず、明け方には「お前が騒いだせいで鳥も動物も木も眠れなかった。あっちへ行けー」と声がした。 The vision did not appear. I made them scold a sprite," the boy cried, so the senior was admonished as follows. 「お前は野牛を追う狩人のようにビジョンを追い求め、精霊を捕まえようとした。自分にはビジョンを得る権利があると思っていた。しかし、ビジョンは孤独に耐えたり、勇気を示すことや、力ずくで得られるものではないのだ。ビジョンとは慎みの心と知恵と忍耐に対して与えられる"大いなる神秘"からの贈り物なのだ。ビジョン・クエストで何も得られなかったと泣く前に、その経験から学んだことをよく考えてみることだ」。 ‐ スー族の伝説 You pursued a vision like the hunter who chased a wild ox and were going to catch sprite. you thought that oneself had a right to obtain a vision. However, the vision is worthy of loneliness and is not showing courage and a thing provided by force. The vision is a present from "great mystery" given for a mind of the modesty and wisdom and patience.
